The Council of the UK Development Studies Association stands in solidarity with protestors condemning the killing of George Floyd by the US police, and with the Black Lives Matter Movement globally. Systemic racism is not just an issue in the US, we have also seen it in the UK, through the Windrush deportations, fire at Grenfell Tower and emergent health disparities related to Covid-19.

We recognise that the teaching, research and practice of global development has itself been implicated in the reproduction of racial and other forms of inequality. We commit ourselves to working to change this, and combatting racism wherever it occurs.
