Global South study group seeks mentor and mentees

Call for Mentors and Mentees – 2023/2024 cohort

Exclusion of scholars based in the global South from northern-dominated circuits, undermines the quality of scholarship and sends a negative message, signaling that global South-based scholars do not have a role to play in knowledge production and generation, despite evidence that expertise and experience do exist in the global South.

The Development Studies Association proposes to contribute to reducing this exclusion through a South-to-South mentoring approach involving mentors and mentees from the global South, who have direct experience operating in low and medium-income countries.  The ultimate outcome is to enhance global South based scholars’ ability to overcome the more overt exclusion based limited exposure to scholarly discourse, opportunities and experiences enjoyed by their global North based peers.

DSA is rolling out a South-to-South mentoring scheme running over 10 months starting June 2023. We are now calling for expression of interest from global South members to participate in the scheme as Mentors and Mentees.

Mentors and mentees should fill in the questionnaire to reach DSA by May 30, 2023. If you are successful, you will be invited to a Virtual Inception Workshop on June 20, 2023 where you will be taken through all details on how the scheme will run.
