ODID: National Multidimensional Poverty Index and Policy

The Policy and Outreach team at the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative works with governments and development partners around the world to build capacity in developing and implementing national Multidimensional Poverty Indices – national MPIs – through bespoke trainings, technical assistance, and guidance with communication strategies and policy engagement. 

AOPHI launched a policy handbook this month which is available to watch online: How to Use National MPIs as a Policy Tool: From Metrics to Policy.

Uruguay

On 19 February, the National Institute of Statistics of Uruguay launched the national Multidimensional Poverty Index to monitor the country’s progress in eradicating poverty in all its forms. The MPI is now an official and permanent tool that complements traditional monetary poverty measurement by analysing how people experience poverty in Uruguay. Read more

Malaysia

Professor Sabina Alkire featured in The Edge Malaysia in an article about the Multidimensional Poverty Index. Malaysia established its official MPI in 2015.
