DSA2018: Global inequalities
University of Manchester, 27-29th June
All wishing to attend the conference must register online and in advance. This does not necessitate paying at that time; registrations are manually checked and an invoice emailed to delegates including payment instructions. Once you've received the invoice, please pay it within 30 days.
The registration fee includes access to all sessions, entrance to the drinks reception on Wednesday, the printed conference programme, two lunches (Thurs & Fri), and tea/coffee in the specified breaks. This year the registration fee also includes a £10 voucher for every conference delegate to spend at the various food vendors which will comprise the catering for the more informal final dinner of the conference on Thursday 28th June. The cost is spread across all delegates and is a more inclusive and democratic format for the final dinner than an exclusive, high-price conference dinner.
In order to reduce our plastic and waste footprint from such events, NomadIT and the University of Manchester have organised the catering for this conference to be as free from single-use plastic as possible. Tea breaks will be served with crockery and not disposable cups and plates. Water will not be provided in small single-use bottles - these will not be available on site. Instead, we ask all delegates to bring with them a water bottle or re-usable cup/mug and there will be large water dispensers that delegates can fill their water bottles or cups from, free of charge. So please do not forget to pack this item! Lunch will also be served without disposal plates or trays, but a lunch bag that can be recycled. We appreciate your understanding in trying to address such an important issue and being responsible for our own consumption and waste and in turn your flexibility in the slightly different way the daytime catering will be served.
The conference fees are:
DSA members: £180
Concessions (student/retirees/no income): £140
Concession & DSA members (student/retirees/no income): £110
Day registrations: £50-110 depending on category (you can only take a day registration for a single day; to attend more than a day, you must take full conference registration)
Registration rates will rise by £20 after 4 May.
The conference dinner on the Thursday evening will be open to all and will be an outdoor informal event in the quad outside the Renold Building. There will be various food and drink vendors from the local Levenshulme Market and live music entertainment from a local band. Every delegate will receive a £10 voucher that can be exchanged at any one of the food vendors. Vendors will provide a combination (generally a main food portion and a soft drink) worth £10 for each person (no change provided). If you wish to purchase anything more than the £10 combination, you can do so in cash. Alcohol can be purchased for cash at the mobile bar.
Please note that while joining DSA is not compulsory we strongly encourage you to do so, and support the community! Indeed the non-member rate is priced to encourage membership. Signing up for membership and paying the membership fee is a separate process from registering for the conference and paying the registration fee. Membership for students is only £10 this year. For further information about DSA membership and to join up, please visit the DSA membership page.
Unfortunately, we do not have reserved University accommodation for delegates, as due to the date of this year's conference, the University did not have rooms available during the period of the conference.
Marketing Manchester has provided a list of accommodation options for delegates, which can be found here. This website will close at the end of May, so please make your booking soon.
Please note: We have been informed that as there is another large conference in the city centre around the same dates, spaces are filling fast in the hotels and prices may be higher than usual, so you are best to book as early as possible.
