DSA2020: New Leadership for Global Challenges
University of Birmingham, 16-19 June 2020
DSA2020 virtual conference
In light of the Coronavirus pandemic, DSA2020 will now be held as a virtual, online conference, taking place over 4 days now: 16-19 June. With the virtual platform we have chosen, Shindig, we aim to mimic as closely as possible the format and events of our in-person conferences, allowing for as much participant interaction and networking as possible. We are excited, under these exceptional global circumstances, to attempt to provide you with a novel and virtual conference experience this year and hope you will join and support us in this new initiative for the DSA.
Shindig online resources & conference policies
We have created resources for all conference delegates about the Shindig online platform and the DSA2020 conference policies. Please take the time to read and look through these ahead of the conference.
There are videos (1 for delegates and 1 for administrators); screen grabs for delegates and for admins and more information about panel formats. For those of you pre-recording your presentation, we have a how to guide for you online as well, this also includes information about file format requirements.
The conference recording, accessibility and the anti-harrassment policies must be read by all ahead of the conference.
Early bird registration has ended.
The early bird registration period is now over. Registration fees are increased slightly, see below. Everyone attending the conference, whethere a presenter, convenor, attendee, etc needs to register. Even if someone else or an institution is paying for you, you need to register. Please register now via the Register link at the bottom of this page.
The NEW VIRTUAL conference fees are:
DSA members or NGO workers*: £75
Concessions (student/retirees/no income): £55
Concession members of DSA (student/retirees/no income): £35
Global South members of DSA (those from and living in the global south): £20**
*NGO workers can select the DSA member option price of £60, even if they are not DSA members.
** Those choosing this category will need to sign up to the free global South DSA membership as well.
These fees provide each delegate with access to all sessions of the virtual conference over the 4 days. There are no day attendance rates for the virtual conference.
- If you’ve registered but are yet to pay, please await our invoice. Invoices have to be checked by our team before sending so are not sent immediately after you register.
- If you’ve registered, paid and no longer wish to participate, see our cancellation policy below and then email us.
Please note that while joining DSA is not compulsory we strongly encourage you to do so, and support the community! Signing up for membership and paying the membership fee is a separate process from registering for the conference and paying the registration fee but we can send you one invoice for both fees if you wish. Membership for students is only £10. For further information about DSA membership and to join up, please visit the DSA membership page.
Both daily and panel timetables will be changed for the virtual conference format. We will notify all participants when this is completed.
Registrations cancelled (notifying us by email) more than three weeks before the conference will be refunded, less a small amount to cover administrative and finance costs. Cancellations made within three weeks of the event will be ineligible for such a refund, due to costs already incurred. Refunds at that point will be discretionary.
